It's that time of year. Time to dust off that box in the attic with the words "CHRISTMAS" written on it, and break out those holly jolly movies. These are a list of my personal favorite Christmas movies, in no particular order. So, without further a due:
Santa Claus (1959/1960):
This movie is not very well known, but it is a cult favorite. This is one of those "it's so bad it's good" type of movies. You shouldn't go into this movie thinking about holiday joy, but look at it as a comedy. With robotic reindeer, Santa living in space, Santa's laboratory, and the inclusion of Merlin the Wizard, this is one of the strangest Christmas movies of all time, but I like it.
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989):
Chevy Chase is the master of physical comedy! This film is very relatable, dealing with annoying family members, the difficulty of putting up decorations, mean neighbors, and the stress of Christmas as a whole. Recommended for those who want a laugh, while not tarnishing the Christmas season.
A Christmas Carol (Any year):
Also known as "Scrooge", this is a timeless tale about a stingy old man turning his life around during the Christmas season. There are many different versions, each adding something different. So different, I currently own 4 different version of it, and I don't feel like I'm watching the same movie over again.
A Christmas Story (1983):
Another Christmas comedy. A boy wants a gun for Christmas, but everyone tells him the same thing "You'll shoot your eye out!" It's all from the perspective of the main character, Ralphie. His perspective on life and situations is hilarious, and you just can't help but root for him.
Rankin/Bass Christmas animated classics:
The best way to celebrate Christmas, is to enjoy classics like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, The Little Drummer Boy, The Year Without a Santa Claus, etc. You can usually get all of them on a box set, and each film is worth the cash. You really have to see them for yourself to enjoy them.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946):
"Everytime a bell rings, an angel gets his wings". A man who has been beaten down by life is attempting to commit suicide, only to be greeted by an angel, who shows him what would happen if he was never born. All of this moves this man, and he returns home to his family for Christmas, which is utterly heartwarming.
