Top 10 Favorite Holidays

It's almost Valentine's Day, get ready for love. However, I would like to talk about a different subject today. Since my blog is appropriately titled "The Holiday Psycho (known as The Halloween Psycho in late September-early November)" I thought I would do a Top 10 list of my favorite holidays. These are the holidays where I get really psychotic:

                                                                     10-Birthdays:
The day of our birth is, for most people, a day of celebration. For children it's like Christmas #2, due to the gifts that they gain from family members. However, birthdays have something that Christmas doesn't: CAKE!

                                                                   9-St.Patrick's Day:
Who doesn't know the story of the famous Leprechaun? If you can find him at the end of the rainbow, you become rich. However, if you have seen the movie Leprechaun, the only thing you'll get for catching a Leprechaun is a beating. It's also an important holiday for Christians.

                                                                      8-4th of July:
This holiday is famous for it's fireworks. I only like it for the cookies.

                                                               7-Friday The 13th:
This holiday is infamous for constant bad luck and misfortune. While mostly myth, the increased number of car accidents on this day must be considered.

                                                                 6-New Year's Eve:
Ah, the beginning of a new year, and the sad end of the holidays. But you have to admit, you get butterflies in your belly when the ball is moments away from dropping.

                                                                     5-Valentine's Day :
Even though I have yet to have a woman to celebrate the day with, the chocolate I buy for myself is pretty good.

                                                                          4-Easter:
I can't explain it, but there is just this spring freshness that I love about the holiday. It's the warm equivalent to Christmas, I think. Just ask the kids.

                                                                    3-Christmas Day:
You're probably asking why it's not number 1, but at least it's in the top 3. It's Christmas, enough said.

Okay, I couldn't pick a number two and a number one. I just can't pick one over the other. So, tied for the number 1 spot:

                                                                     1/2: Halloween:
I love this holiday SOOOO much! The holiday for horror, or just harmless fun. I can't say much about this holiday, except that it is absolutely, positively, flawless!

                                                               1/2: Christmas Eve:
The most magical night of the year. PERIOD! It may be tied with Halloween, but Halloween does not have nearly the magic of the beautiful night. The snow sparkles more on this night, the family is happier on this night, the children are happy and eager to sleep on this night, isn't this how every night should be? I am in tears right now, just thinking of this wonderful night, the picture tells the story. This is why I hate summer so much. No holiday it offers is as magical as, well, Christmas. Plus, everyone walks around in baggy shorts. At least during Christmas, people dress decent. Then again, you're talking to the guy who wears sweaters when it's blazing hot outside.

CLOSING COMMENTS: Even though I am ranking holidays, it does not mean that I don't love them all. Even the ones that I didn't rank, I still love. The common day is boring, holidays just add some spice. The reason I tied Christmas and Halloween, is because I just can't choose. It depends which mood I'm in. If, I'm in the mood for horror, I can't wait for Halloween. If I'm in the mood for magic and wonder, I can't wait for Christmas. However, I want to leave you with this; I can live without a Halloween, but I can't live without a Christmas.

  1. Great, great job Joshua! A good secular critique of holidays, but considering the meaning behind each holiday would propel Christmas and Easter to number one for sure (at least that's my opinion). Also, what about the 4th of July - more than fireworks and cookies - it's celebrating the birth of this GREAT nation! You really did do an excellent job on this!
